Original Print Gallery, 4 Temple Bar, Dublin 2

7 September – 30 September

From Friday 7th until Sunday 30th of September, Black Church Print Studio celebrates our first Salon Show at the Original Print Gallery, Temple Bar, as part of our 25 year anniversary exhibition schedule. This exhibition will preview on Thursday 6th September at 6pm.

Selected by Ann Hodge, Curator of Prints and Drawings from the National Gallery of Ireland and Jan de Fouw, founder member of the Black Church Print Studio. The salon show will consist of approximately 50 works by 20 artists and is a showcase of work produced by current members at the Black Church Print Studio. The subject matter varies from representational to abstract to photographic to digital video work. The result is an elegant and eclectic show that represents the aesthetic of the Black Church Print Studio.

The term Salon is derived from the Salon d’Apollon, in the Louvre, France, in the 18th century where paintings were generally displayed “salon style,” with the walls almost completely covered by works of art. The works in this exhibition have been chosen to celebrate variety and will be displayed in this ‘Salon style’. The scale varies from monumental to miniature and encompasses etchings from Janine Davidson, Joan Gleeson, Dermot Finn, Lucy Braddell, wood block work by Ann Kavanagh, screenprints by Louise Peat, carborundum prints by Stephen Vaughan, digital works by Emma Finucane and Mary Frazer and 3 dimensional prints by Piia Rossi and Monica Flynn.
