You may or may not know I am mad about kayaking, I got the bug a few years back and I have it bad. Anyway this post is about a paddling pal of mine called Sonja Ewen who has just started circumnavigating Ireland with her friend Eila Wilkinson. They are both trying to raise money for the homeless, Sonja for Focus Ireland and Eila for Digartref, I am sure any support would be much appreciated.

A Student demonstrating an unfinished project that I attempted during my school placement in Synge Street School. I never got to finish the project due to a emergency reshuffle of the timetable.

The projects aim was to teach the students about colour theory and colour mixing. The students were broken in to teams and each team had to pick a part of the room and design camouflage to blend into the room. They then had to paint some clothes in these colours and patterns. I will try this again sometime but I will improve the scheme.

Below there is a few examples of a nearly finished camouflage suit.

The Black Church Print Studio presents ‘Node’ National Print Studio Network Exhibition at the Original Print Gallery from 12 September to 5 October 2008, this exhibition will preview on Thursday 11 September at 6pm.
The ‘National Print Studio Network’ was an initiative of the Black Church Print Studio and was launched in 2007. It was conceived to generate a dialogue regarding contemporary print practice in Ireland, encourage greater interaction between Fine Art Print Studios and to increase creative opportunities for their Artist Members.
The National Print Studio Network includes: Belfast Print Workshop; Black Church Print Studio; Cork Printmakers; Courtyard Printmakers at Airfield; Graphic Studio Dublin; Leinster Printmakers; Limerick Printmakers; Lorg Printmakers; and Seacourt Print Workshop.
As part of this initiative the Black Church Print Studio were delighted to invite members from the nine participating studios to submit work in response to the exhibition title, ‘Node’. The title of this exhibition was based on the definition of a Node as a central point of a network of operation; from this starting point many connections and associations evolve establishing vital links for mutual benefit. Applicants were encouraged to explore and respond to this title in it’s broadest context taking into consideration the many interpretations of what a network encapsulates and through the various printmaking mediums.
